For more than two centuries, brick production shaped the landscape and economy of the Flensburg Fjord. Founded in 1732, Cathrinesminde Brickworks is one of the few surviving brickworks from that era and today stands as one of Denmark's most significant industrial heritage sites. Preserved kilns, drying sheds, workers' housing and waterfront loading facilities offer insight into an industry that once supplied bricks throughout Denmark and beyond.

The recent development of the site has focused on strengthening the visitor experience while preserving its historic character. New outdoor spaces help guide visitors through the former production landscape, connecting exhibition areas, workers' cottages, and the shoreline. BLOC was introduced as a contemporary addition to the site, providing places for rest, meeting friends, and contemplation within the museum environment.

According to architect Troels Lærke, it was important to select furniture that both respected the cultural heritage of the setting and could withstand the harsh conditions of the fjord throughout the year. The BLOC series was chosen for its combination of industrial references and contemporary design, creating a link between the site's historic identity and its future use.

The furniture is finished in a deep green colour that references both the window frames of the historic workers' houses and the machine enamels associated with the area's industrial past, according to Troels Lærke. The result is a contemporary outdoor environment that integrates naturally into its surroundings while supporting the museum's ambition to create meaningful experiences at the intersection between cultural heritage, landscape, and people.
