The Meatpacking District has evolved from an industrial hub into a high‑traffic neighbourhood defined by culture, retail and hospitality. New destinations such as the High Line, Little Island and Pier 57 have significantly increased footfall along the Hudson River and reinforced West 14th Street as a primary east–west connection.

A section between Ninth and Tenth Avenue has been transformed into a pedestrian‑focused promenade by the Meatpacking District Management Association in collaboration with Street Plans. Approximately 1,500 m² of former roadway has been repurposed into usable public space, organised into clearly defined areas with planting and seating. Vestre elements are integral to this new use: they structure the space and support a range of activities. The installation is based on raised parklet platforms that bring the furniture to sidewalk level, creating a seamless, accessible surface while remaining flexible and fully reversible. The project required close coordination between client, designers and international partners. The promenade strengthens the link between the neighbourhood and the waterfront and demonstrates how existing street space can be repurposed for public use.
