Why Vestre Works with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) provide a robust and reliable data foundation. For Vestre, the consistent use of EPDs is a logical step, as transparency about environmental impacts is a core element of the company’s approach to sustainability.

EPDs make it possible to communicate environmental impacts in a clear and comparable way. They support well‑informed decision‑making and actively assist customers in their day‑to‑day project work. EPDs are standardised, publicly available and independently verified environmental declarations based on Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs). They comply with international standards such as ISO 14025 and EN 15804 and describe the environmental impacts of a product across defined life‑cycle stages.
EPDs as a Necessary Data Basis
In the construction and planning sector, the demand for reliable, product‑specific environmental data has increased significantly in recent years. Certification systems such as BREEAM, DGNB and LEED, as well as new EU‑level regulatory requirements, increasingly rely on verified product data rather than generic assumptions.
Against this background, EPDs are becoming a fundamental prerequisite for holistic building assessment and planning.
Why Has Vestre Taken This Step?
For Vestre, transparency is a central element of its sustainability strategy. Traceability, measurability and data‑driven development are essential prerequisites for advancing decarbonisation and circular business models across the entire value chain.
EPDs make a concrete contribution to this approach:
- They provide transparent, product‑level environmental data.
- They form a reliable basis for comparison and informed decision‑making.
- They directly support Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and building certification systems.
- They create a solid data foundation for internal optimisation and continuous improvement.
Accordingly, the use of EPDs is being systematically expanded. In 2026 alone, Vestre will extend third-party EPD certification to around 250 product SKU, and capability of delivering it on all products within days.
“If we want to make well‑informed decisions — for our products and together with our customers — we need reliable data. EPDs are a key enabler for purchasers to make the right long-term decision when it comes to both environmental and financial attributes.”
Øyvind Bjørnstad, Sustainability & Supply Chain Manager at Vestre
Verification and Publication
Vestre’s EPDs are verified and published by EPD Global. As an independent programme operator, EPD Global works in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804 and is part of the ECO Platform. This ensures that Vestre’s EPDs are recognised internationally and can be used for a wide range of applications.
How the EPDs Can Be Used
For each product with an EPD, Vestre provides a concise overview of key environmental indicators, supplemented by a direct link to the full EPD document. This allows the data to be used both for quick reference and for detailed project‑specific assessments.
EPDs can be used to ensure that projects stay within both carbon budgets and financial budgets.
EPDs can be used to compare similar products or projects across multiple indicators, most notably Global Warming Potential (GWP) and recycled content.
EPDs can be used to track progress on value‑chain interventions as Vestre takes concrete steps to decarbonise its value chain. For instance, when we switch to a low-carbon steel type, a significant drop will be shown in the GWP of our products.
