Rice University in Houston is a leading private research university known for its open, landscape-driven campus. As part of its ongoing development, the Academic Quad was redesigned to enhance the outdoor environment and better support daily campus life.

The project transforms a space previously used mainly as a pass-through into a destination. By reorganizing pathways, seating areas, and open spaces, the quad now serves as a social hub for gathering, studying, and informal use throughout the day. Custom elements from Vestre’s VROOM series are integrated into the design. They help structure the space and support different types of use, contributing to the quad’s role as an active destination on campus. The Academic Quad illustrates how targeted interventions can turn transitional campus areas into vibrant and functional public spaces.
