In Biehagen at Bergen Botanical Garden on Milde, outdoor furniture has become part of the ecosystem itself. Vestre Habitats is filled with logs, branches and twigs from garden and park, forming the basis for new life – particularly for insects. The project is part of the research initiative BoBie, where researchers at the University of Bergen use eDNA for the first time to map which species move into the furniture, and what diversity can be expected over time. Vestre Habitats forms part of the garden, contributing purpose-designed solutions such as Decay Edge and the insect hotel Leaf, developed to strengthen biodiversity in urban spaces.
